A Door To Adulthood
Jason has been listening.
Recently, we talked about what his first product will be in his business. I suggested a pamphlet or mini-course on something he has learned. “A 5th grader can team a 4th grader” was my attitude.
He suggested a booklet on how an ADHD kid learned to get A’s. I asked him his approach. He said:
- Choose a goal
- Choose a way of approaching it
- Start trying.
- If it works, do more of it.
- If it doesn’t work, do something else.
This is SO good, and SO close to what I’d have said. I want him to do this himself, to the greatest degree, and this would actually be useful, but I think it could be stronger by tweaking a bit. These are the ways I would work with these five points, but this will be a discussion, and I want him to express his own theories and feelings about this.
- Choose a goal. BE SURE IT IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR HIGHEST VALUES.
- Choose a way of approaching it BY MODELING THE ACTIONS, EMOTIONS, AND STRATEGIES OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED IT, STARTING FROM WHERE YOU ARE.
- VERIFY THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE THEY PAID.
- Start trying.
- MAINTAIN SENSORY ACUITY. PAY ATTENTION TO THE RESULTS. If it works, do more of it.
- If it doesn’t work, do something else.
