A Magical Morning Ritual for my son

In a recent discussion of the advantages of being rich (of course there are advantages. That’s why people want money!) an implication was raised that wealth is a DEFINITIVE advantage. That, in essence, it is folly to believe you can elevate yourself or succeed unless you were already born with that advantage. My response was “I never thought other than that people born into a given class are likely to stay there. The only question I care about is: can you advance despite disadvantage? The answer to that is “yes”, and the key is to look at the spaces between the obstacles more than the obstacles.”

Another reader offered a serious thought worthy of comment: “Some days, it’s really hard to find the spaces. And it seems like there’s some kind of vortex quicksand gravity field that wants to rope you and root you in place, or hit you with a boulder and send you back to the beginning or further back.”

Some days, it’s really hard to find the spaces.” This is the truth. And it is a PREDICTABLE truth: some days are going to be hard. Obstacles will hit you from every direction. Some days, a meteor hits your dog.

But if the M.A.G.I.C. formula is true, to change your luck you have to take daily action, have to feel gratitude and other positive emotions, have to have a clear intention (goals, outcomes) and a conviction that you can achieve your goal.

There are two truths you’d better face:
