ABB (Always Be Batman)

###

I made the comment that the people who think they would be Batman if they were only rich are lying to themselves, unless they are already elite athletes: serious no-b.s. athleticism can be found in poor neighborhoods all over the world. To max out your genetic potential, you mostly need DRIVE and ROLE MODELS. Money is interesting, but any coach will tell you that the person they want to coach ALREADY has drive. Can’t be stopped. Wakes up every morning thinking about their goal, goes to bed at night reluctantly, unless they have maxxed out.

The same it true of good parents and lovers. And of business people and writers. When I was a kid, I was told by EVERYONE that I couldn’t have my dreams, should seek vocational training. My mother burned my stories, and even as far as college, I was mocked for my stories of giant amoebas eating towns, while the teacher praised her pet student who she was sleeping with.

But I swallowed my bile, and noticed something: the literary darling couldn’t handle criticism. And I knew right then that I was going to make it, AND HE WOULDN’T.

Why? Because my DESIRE to write burned hotter and brighter than my SHAME at being mocked. In fact, I found a way to turn their mockery into commitment. I’d show THEM!

DESIRE to change your life for the better, to publish stories, to get into the best shape you are genetically capable of, to heal your finances, to find a spouse…DESIRE is the first step, and without it, no coach can help you.

This is one reason the “White Belt” level of Firedance is the “Five Minute Miracle.” If I were your daddy, I could supply you with motivation (“do it or I’ll turn off your internet! Do it and I’ll give you $$!”) If I was your friend IRL we could talk things through, and I could find what motivates you and hook your goals into that. For instance, I bought two days of coaching from the best friend of the world’s most expensive success coach (I knew I couldn’t afford the Big Guy himself, but reckoned that his bestie and lead coach would be very good. He was), and he discovered that ANY time he mentioned Nicki, my energy “popped.” That’s right — all he had to do is find something I ALREADY had a desire for, and connect the new behavior to that!! Brilliant.

“Think how proud Nicki will be…”

“Think of how much you’ll be able to support Nicki…”

“Think of what a great role model you’ll be for Nicki…”

He bashed that button shamelessly.. And it worked, exactly as an embarrassing event twenty years ago can still make you shiver with fear if you connect to it in the wrong way.

People say they can’t find desire. This tells me, AUTOMATICALLY, that they are disconnected from their bodies. They are up in their heads, or locked into a damaged heart. It is possible that they “stuffed” their emotional pain into their bodies (the “Black Bag” thing that Huna shamans speak of), or that they were physically damaged in some way (sexual abuse is horrific for this).

If I am coaching you from a distance, you HAVE to find your own way to enough motivation to spend an hour testing Firedance theories. If you can…you can help yourself. If you can’t…that’s your first step.

You HAVE to find a spark of desire within your heart. Then, very carefully fan it into flame. In a perfect world, a writer probably STARTS with a spark from Harlan’s “burning core” and then builds a bonfire. Second best is building a structure from craft and discipline alone, trusting that along the way something will strike a spark. THEN you burn the whole damned thing down and cackle as the sparks spiral up into the sky.

The worst is the person who, on discipline alone and possibly for money, driven by fear of poverty, builds one “house” after another but never moves in, or burns it all down to make real heat. They just hammer boards together until they are old and tired, and wonder what happened to the kid who used to love telling stories.

If you can find the DESIRE to motivate yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally, and connect that to “atomic goals” that move you forward just an inch or so every day, you will gain momentum.

Focus in. What is the SMALLEST “atomic goal” overall that can move your life over, in Firedance?

The 5MM.

Followed by creating a MAGIC pattern for your body, heart, and mind. Three goals.

Followed by integrating all of them into your “Morning Ritual”. At that point, put EVERYTHING into performing that morning ritual. JUST FOCUS ON THAT 10–20 MINUTES and the rest will come.

Set your smart phone. Leave post-it notes to yourself. Get an accountability partner. Hire a coach. SOMETHING to get you across that initial line.

You must. That is when the life of an awake, aware, adult human being awaits you. Its as close as your next breath.

Namaste
