Accepting Life as it is

3 min readMay 13, 2025

A scotoma is a blind spot or area of reduced vision within the normal field of vision. It can be temporary or permanent and may appear as a dark spot, blurry area, or even a complete absence of vision in a specific area.

###

Every day, looking at one virtue. Focusing, seeking to improve by 1% every day.

Today, the Stoic principle “Amor Fati”…love your fate. “Do not seek for events to happen as you wish, but wish them to happen as they do.” — Marcus Aurelius.

The entire genesis of MAGIC was the awful realization that to get out of a bad situation, I had to be grateful it happened. I would have done ANYTHING to avoid that realization.

It was so bad that my brain literally deleted all information that would lead me to that conclusion. Only the horror of such a blind spot forced me to re-read the book that my mind refused to understand, one page at a time, until I boiled it all down to a simple statement that if I didn’t have GRATITUDE to be where I was…I would never have full control of my faculties, and be hampered in my quest to find a way out.

Love your fate.

If you love yourself, then you have to make peace with the things that formed you. You have to let it go. This does NOT mean letting an abuser back into your life, or anything of the kind. Just that if you stay in the present moment, you escape suffering. If you enter that present moment through flow state, you embrace joy. If that flow state facilitates excellence in an arena that serves your community…you have discovered a secret to real life mastery.

BE GRATEFUL for what is. It is the doorway to having and being more. The ONLY reason to hold onto past pain is if you haven’t learned the lessons it offered. Learn the lesson, and you can release the emotion.

“The obstacle becomes the offering” is something we say in Lifewriting. The path between you and what you desire is strewn with obstacles. But learning to move those obstacles is exactly what you need to be strong enough to open the door to your castle. Grasping that allows you to release your negative thoughts.

USE YOUR NEGATIVE ENERGY TO DRIVE POSITIVE ACTION. Be grateful for the experiences, the emotions, AND USE THEM. The people who stay “stuck” cannot see this, do not believe them.

Evolve…but leave a trails of bread crumbs for them to follow, if they awaken from their nightmare of insufficiency.

You know better. Be grateful, or your fear of taking responsibility for your life will delete every opportunity, every resource, because your castle is built on sand instead of rock. You are more focused on justifying failure than achieving success.

And if you are a member of a marginalized or disadvantaged community? Then there is more pressure on you. Fewer opportunities.

In that case, commit to being a pioneer. Use MAGIC to weaponize probability. To hell with “luck”. Play a slow and steady game, remembering that most players at the table will panic when “luck” turns against them.

Be grateful, and you start the day with the positive emotions most people only get when they have a “big win.” Then they crash, fearing the next problem.

YOU are training yourself to embrace your problems, to relish them, the way a weightlifter eyes the barbells and kettle bells. Be grateful for them.

Grow strong. Then…teach others how you did it.
