All The Gold You Can Carry
If you’ve been following my thoughts on the Robbins-Madanes “Persuasion” framework applied to Lifewriting, you’ve seen these steps:
- Understand their world
- Establish rapport, get leverage
- Break their negative pattern
- Define the problem in solvable terms.
Any ONE of these will improve your results. And the best persuaders, whether they be parents, sales folk, or leaders use them all even if they’ve never consciously thought about it. Look at your own communications: test this theory with people have succeeded in reaching, and those you have not. Did you respect and understand them? Did they trust you? Did you break their pattern before it could take root? Did you offer a plausible solution for their issue?
The Fifth step is to connect them with new resources, whether internal or external.
Sometimes this is: “hey! I know someone who understands how to get into medical school. Let me hook you up.” Or “hey! Remember last year when you made that big sale? Wow, you were on FIRE! What in the heck did you do to pump yourself up?”
The single most important thing you can help someone change, the single greatest resource is their STATE. When you feel energetic, optimistic, confident…the world is your oyster. You take more actions, see more clearly, act with energy AND PEOPLE NOTICE. Whether you are hitting the gym, asking for a date, or closing the deal your STATE OF BEING might just be the most…
