An Hour A Day?
Monday will be day 15 of Jason’s “New Job”. Since we started paying him 10$ a day for his “work” (cleaning, exercising, homework, following the Three Gate) he hasn’t missed a single meeting, is actually getting himself there.
But what I find most promising is that he agrees that if he had put in an hour a day per class, he could have gotten straight “A’s” in school. This is critical. Once he admits that, he has to see that his results have been due to the time and focus he put in — and the ability to focus, over time, is as close to admitting there is such a thing as “talent” as I’m willing to go (for all practical purposes). Once he sees that, the following thought has to occur:
“If I spend an hour a day per class, I can get A’s.”
“A’s represent the capacity to achieve a level of excellence at a task.”
“This excellence transfers to the work world: the ability to quantify the amount of time, energy, and focus necessary to be in the top 10%”
“If I want to be in the top 10%, this is the Way.”
“What do I want enough to put in that level of effort?”
The book the “Four Hour Work Week” is about what happens when you apply the Paredo Principle to itself in fractal form: “what is the 20% of your action that gets you 80% of the results?” and then: “What is the 20% of that 20%?” And even “what is the 20% of the 20% of the 20%..?”
Once he has let go of his negative belief (“I can’t”) and replaced it with a positive…
