The M.A.G.I.C. formula asks you to consider five basic aspects of performance as critical to even being “in the game.” Have a “zero” in any category and you are spinning your wheels.

Modeling/Mapping, Action, Gratitude, Intention (outcome/goals), Confidence.

Gratitude is what we focus on on Thanksgiving. The question of “what are you grateful for TODAY?” Just as I can focus on past failures, or present troubles or future potential disappointments or disasters and TRASH my mood any time I want, I can also shift my mood to the positive, just by focusing on the positives.

Twenty years ago, I paid a high-end coach a crap-ton (that’s the technical term) of money to work with me for two days. Thousands of dollars, because I wanted to sample the level of coaching multi-millionaires can afford. I selected carefully, and when we got together, he hit the ground running.

And one of the very first things he did was to identify something in my life that gave me pleasure. Probing here and there, he rapidly identified a truth: the strongest, steadiest positive in my life was my love for my daughter Nicki. It was simply unalloyed, unwavering, unquestioned. That connection was BEDROCK.

I love her. She loves me. She’s my muffin and I’m her daddy. SIMPLE. And every time he got me to remember hugging her, seeing her, holding her, I lit up. Still do.

That meant that ANYTHING he needed to motivate me to do, he could simply get me to identify the way in which the new behavior
