Dial “M” For M.A.G.I.C.

I may make a small change in my approach to teaching. For six years, I’ve used the “M.A.G.I.C.” formula without using the “M’ specifically. Still a great mnemonic. It was derived from boiling down “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles, one of the foundational sources of “The Secret.” The “Secret” has always annoyed me, because of the number of people who followed it and seemed to believe that if they want something badly enough, it will come to them.

Well, that’s partially true. To the degree that any “formula” can guarantee success (they cannot. They can only increase the odds), you can modify the Secret to be more effective and efficient simply by measuring your desire for the thing by how motivated you are to get your ass off the couch and work for it.

That lead to Action X Gratitude X Intention X Conviction = Results, with the caveat that if there is a “zero” in any category, the whole equation zeroes out. Looking at this, it seems pretty clear, and pretty damned foundational. It isn’t a formula for massive success so much as a “basic” pattern — if you don’t take action, feel positive about life, have clear goals and believe you can and should succeed…you are very likely screwed. You aren’t even in the game.

But five days ago I was thinking about all of these basics, as I often do, and considered something:

You can act massively, feel positive, have VERY clear goals and a total belief in your abilities…and still fail. Oh, there are probably infinite factors, and everyone…
