“Done By One”

August is going to be an amazing month. We have about 10 different projects swirling about, two of them already contracted, maybe three more VERY likely, and the other five at different levels of “damned good chance.”

So I’ve spent a couple of days just thinking through how we can handle it all. Lets see…of the 100% certain things, there is work for pitching documents. I find that easier than actually writing scripts, so let’s not worry about this.

Here’s the important question: if 20% of this stuff happens, actually gets to the point wher I am writing, how much work is that, within what time frame?

Call it two television pilots at 60 pages each. One dramatic podcast, ten episodes at 30 pages each. And lets say one movie script. 120 pages. That’s 120+300+120, approximately, or a total of 540 pages.

WOOF.

What is the time frame? Well, there’s some flexibility there, in terms of external deadline pressure. So let me turn that around.

  1. I know I can create 5 pages of rough script in less than an hour. Call it 2 “25/5” sessions, just to be safe.
  2. I can plan a “Done By One” or “Through by two” schedule that includes exercise, social media, rough draft and basic input if I am in my office by 8:30, and go to bed by 11:30. I can plan 8.5 hours of sleep a night.
  3. If I can do this, I can be certain of creating 5 pages of rough a day before 1 or 2 o’clock. I can then research and polish later in the day.
