Escaping Childhood
“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure” — Oprah Winfrey
If you can clearly see the challenge ahead, and have acknowledged the fear without being controlled by it, you are ready to take responsibility for the results. This is huge. It is Luke Skywalker’s “Teach me to be a Jedi like my father” moment.
He had no idea of the path ahead, all of the trials. What had come before, or where it would all end. But he committed: knew what he wanted, and had found a ROLE MODEL — Obi-Wan. Obi Wan would give him a map of action and thought to take him far enough to meet his next teacher — Yoda.
But without that first step, TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, nothing else would matter. He would have been trapped forever in spiritual childhood.
Where do you need to take responsibility in life? Who is your role model of action, maturity, capacity, courage, clarity? Preferably a real person — there are fictional characters who simply don’t add up, or have belief systems in conflict with each other, such that if you tried to follow them, you’d find nothing good at the far end. Or that the path is simply impossible, and created by a writer who might have had good intentions, but simply didn’t understand real human psychology.
What is your challenge?
What are you doing with your fear?
Who is your role model? Who has overcome obstacles similar enough that you can use their map on your territory?
Answer these questions, and you have taken another step.
Namaste
Steve
P.S. — The Oprah quote was chosen today because my appearance on her show “Love Goals” was broadcast on Saturday. Check out 3.5 minutes of an intervention at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvZlgQWFjIA
