“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” (2019)
Zac Efron plays serial killer Ted Bundy in a dry, ghastly, well-made Netflix film that tells the story very close-up, from the perspective of court documents and the memory of his girlfriend Liz Kendall (Lily Collins). Yes, I think it important that Bundy be played by someone with the physical grace and effortless charm of an Efron. It cannot be made clearer that this man was a monster, and it is critical to understand that not all such creatures have fur on their faces or bolts on their necks.
I can’t quite recommend it, but I think if you are inclined to watch such a film (there are no direct depictions of the actual murders, but all the inference you could possibly want) you will probably feel that your time was well invested. No easy answers, just a tiger’s heart wrapped in a player’s hide.
Be careful out there. There really are demons in the world.
