The reason the joint mobility drills are so foundational is that you can scale them down until you are making circles as small as b-b’s, or as large as hula hoops. Keep the size to the level where you can still breathe smoothly, with your pain not going above a “3” and over time, your body will reveal its true potential for motion, in the process gaining health as you nourish every joint, tendeon, ligament, and muscle in your body, all in less than five minutes.
It is fantastic stuff. I don’t perform it daily because Tai Chi covers much of the same territory, and yoga covers the rest. It is the very definition of a “health” as opposed to “fitness” exercise. And I wanted to discuss that, as there is much confusion.
The “Performance Pyramid” goes something like this:
- Health
- Fitness
- Skill acquisition
- Competition
Note that Health is FOUNDATIONAL. Most “weekend athletes” or “crash exercisers” trying to regain their glory days make the HUGE mistake of going out to play sports on the weekend (Competition), without working on their skills, creating a base of fitness, or most importantly, evaluating their health.
What is the difference?
