How Do You Get To The “Next Level”?

My goal for 2022 is to raise myself a decile in each of the arenas that matter to me. I understand that there are really no objective measurements in some of them, and that any objective measures I choose were subjectively evaluated. Sigh. But working on the “New Year’s Resolution” stuff that would be sort of increasing my skill and capacity 10% in areas, or moving from the top (say) 30% to the top 20%. Something like that.

There are three major arenas, and determining progress in them is a matter of comparing myself to past performance, getting evaluation from my elders/betters, people who have been on the Path longer or done better, or measures like “Net Worth” or “% body fat.” It’s not dogmatic, more of a set of goals to pursue, and an awareness that there is a Gap between my current position and my destiny.

Body. Start here, because the easiest way to ground yourself and get objective measures of your progress is in your body. Body requires the least cooperation from others, and you can set measurable, observable goals in fitness and health. I want to increase my energy, and that means increasing fitness, quality of sleep, quality of food/eating patterns (fewer carbs, stricter fasting) and so on.

Relationships. Starting with myself: my self-love, centeredness, peace of mind. Expanding outward to Tananarive: I want to be a better husband. And Jason: being a better, more effective father. I believe that one more year, and I’ll have his feet on solid ground. Then the game really begins: teaching…
