Quite true. Actually, They are NEVER guaranteed 100%. What IS guaranteed is that if you don’t pay the price you can be 99% sure you WON’T get what you desire. I find the odds to be vastly in favor of doing the work.
I’d go so far as to say that, for all practical purposes, you are 100% guaranteed to fail if you don’t try. How, then, can you have the best chance to reach your goal, given the uncertainty?
- Start with your real goal. Really, no matter what you say or think you want, it boils down to “being happy.” Moving away from pain and toward pleasure. If you’ve been beaten down, that goal might simply be the first part of that: stop hurting. But as soon as that happens, the next step is in the direction of pleasure. Worm or genius, that’s all anyone wants. One of the most important aspects of maturity is postponing temporary pleasure, accepting temporary discomfort for long-term pleasure. And it is a sign of personal evolution to accept sacrifice, personal pain in exchange for the greater good…IF AND ONLY IF YOU ARE COMING FROM A PLACE OF STRENGTH. Otherwise, you are avoiding your personal work, distracting yourself by helping others. When in the correct perspective, this can be one of the most powerful and inspiring things in existence.
