“If We Don’t Deal With It, It’ll Deal With Us”

I’m starting my days working on the Dawn Callan “Warrior Within” program. And the transcripts are just amazing. Making so many connections to other martial, psychological, philosophical and spiritual disciplines. I will have to go over it multiple times to be sure of the right way to frame it, but right now what I’m seeing is that if I craft this for women hungry to connect with their feeling of power and safety in the world…that just might be the single greatest benefit. Yes, every word is important for men as well. But one goal at a time.

I was hit hard today by what she was saying about our “shadow selves,” basically the “dark side” of unprocessed emotion or damage. Let’s say creativity. If stifled by oppressive parents or fear of failure, that can cripple our faith in our own instincts, and a sense of despair, and lack of connection to the source of our lives.

Sexual hungers are a serious trap for even the advanced Seeker. Perhaps even ESPECIALLY for the advanced seeker. While physical threat certainly arises for those who challenge the system, unexamined sexual appetites might be worse because they are literally and figuratively “seductive.” They are another way we stray from the Path.

The Chakras are a great conceptual road map. Do NOT allow your skeptical mind to go into the “come on, I can’t believe in little wheels. There are no chakras in the human body.” Great. That was smart of you to know that. But being WISE asks you to consider that maybe the ancients knew this as well. That they might well have been speaking metaphorically, in ways that map over with Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, describing the way we mature through life.

Viewed that way, there is NOTHING more urgent than physical survival. All you need do to increase motivation is stick someone’s head in a bucket of water and: voila, instant motivation.

Second most powerful, overall, is sexuality. And the tricky tricky thing is that as you get your act together, as you gain more power, or authority, or mastery of your body or any subject of note, you also become more sexually attractive. This is natural, but also a trap if you are not SUPER careful with your ethics. This “trap” hits teachers, gurus, trainers, politicians, celebrities, business people. While it hits men and women differently, both are capable of abusing it.
