“Just Do Today”: Sun Salutation Challenge Day 5

I’m pretty sure that if I could only do ONE practice to connect my body-mind, it would be the “Morning Ritual” I’ve spoken of. It rescued me when I was at the lowest emotional point in thirty years, and it is also the core of my work with Jason. The “Blessing Dance” with Tananarive is really just another version of it. It is, basically, a moment when you bring breath, movement, emotion, and logical thought all together in a single braid. One way or the other, we have to approach this unity if we want to operate at maximum efficiency.

Another thought: if the three most important aspects of changing behavior are

  1. Establishing Rapport
  2. Breaking bad patterns
  3. Connecting with higher purpose

Then the MOST important thing is to be able to do this for yourself. Visualizing/focusing on your intents and blessings during the breathing breaks of the “Five Minute Miracle” are like poking holes in the fabric of mediocrity, but expanding two of those breaks into Sun Salutations is like taking sheers to it and cutting eye-holes. You can see, just for a moment, where you really are in life in the sense of that body-mind connection. It takes courage, because you may not like the answer. But if you HAVE that courage, you can begin to change the course of your trajectory physically.

And if you can change yourself physically, you can change your mind and heart as well. Note that it doesn’t necessarily work the other way…
