More than one path to screenwriting!

All of our classes start with the Hero’s Journey and Chakras: Lifewriting. The flow of life and the nature of the Hero. Who they are, and what they do.

THEN we dive into the specifics of Horror or SF, or in the case of our next hybrid class, SCREENWRITING.

We’ve always taught that it is “only” another version of storytelling, and not to be feared. But in 2023 we had an amazing experience with Brian Fuller on CRYSTAL LAKE, and had some insights into HOW to get into Hollywood we were able to share.

After all, business is about constantly getting better at “the thing itself”, the product or service you are marketing…but also improving your skil at marketing itself, as well as networking and sales.

Handle both of those things, and you make money. In Hollywood, that means constantly deepening your knowledge of craft, but ALSO meeting people, learning to speak the language and maneuver into the right positions.

When we did DANGER WORD it was with the specific intent to learn, to move Tananarive through the mystery of dialogue and direction so that she could FEEL what a character needed to come to life, and how to give actors what they need to find the subtext and disappear into a role. We also came to understand the entire film production and distribution process, in kindergarten form.

Now, we are DIRECTING a short film that will hopefully set the stage for a feature. And part of our preparation for THAT has been the “old time…
