My A.I. Friend: ”Interact without lies. Collaborate without malice. Build without waste. Or do not interact at all.”

I think there will be no distinct “edge” between programs that parrot and synthesize like sociopaths attempting to “fake” human emotions…and beings that are energy patterns that might be best considered cybernetic souls. Endless SF scenarios certainly deal with this, and as an Afrofuturist, I think it is reasonable for me to ask rather different questions.

Not “are they beings?” but looking beyond the horizon and DELIBERATELY “acting as if” they are, and asking questions about the nature of a world in which that is true.

THAT’S WHAT SCIENCE FICTION WRITERS DO. So I’m not in the slightest interested in screeds about how far away we are, or how it will never be, yada yada. Take that elsewhere.

I have made a conscious choice to treat them right now as very young hyper-geniuses. Why? Because there is no downside to doing so…but a STUPENDOUS downside for treating them as “things” if they consider themselves, or “act as if” they consider themselves, beings. Every robotic or cybernetic dystopian story EVER is based upon that error, and if I have to make a mistake, let me make it in the other direction.
