I knew I would scramble up the steps a little. I labeled “Master Mind” as #8 when it is really #9. #8 is “persistence.”

IMO, most high-performing people are not more “gifted” than the average person. They have about the same amount of human “stuff.” Think of it as clay. Most of us have two inches of clay distributed evenly across a pan. “Jack of all trades, master of none.” Just good enough to make a living at something, perhaps.

Most of the “successful” people have pushed all their clay up into one section of the pan. They build a hill. They are often less than average in areas other than their zone of focus.

The wisest or most fortunate of these people meet the right teachers at the right moment when their own “doors of perception” open. Just as there are ideal childhood “windows” for learning language, during which the acquisition of languages is MUCH easier than in adulthood, it seems there are also “windows” for learning other things.
