Pain, Pleasure, and “Opportunity Costs”

All sales is persuading people that the benefits of doing something outweigh the cost. This can and should be done honestly, and I’d say that you can’t cheat other people without ultimately cheating yourself. Why? Because what all people want, deep inside, is to re-connect with love. One might see this as returning to vestigial memories of floating in the womb or being held by a loving parent (without which babies die), or if you are spiritually minded, a re-connection with the divine. Works either way.

How much is your time worth per hour? What do you bill yourself out for? Whatever that is, figure your per-minute rate, and realize that whenever you are talking to someone, interacting with them, you are giving them that much cash. Unless you feel you are getting something back of equal or greater value, you are acting as a charity. Is that your intent? Did you think your time was free..?

You can get more money, but no one can give you another moment of time. So the monetary figure is actually still not a full accounting of the costs. When people demand to talk to you, act as if they have the right to your energy, even if you don’t see any value from the interaction, they are acting a little like Incels, aren’t they?

I remember a guy who wanted me to read a book. I asked him to summarize it for me, so that I could see if I had sufficient interest to invest a week with it. He refused. I offered to call him, so that he could just tell me. He refused, and I said that…
