Pressure Testing The Three Gates

Is it True? Is it Useful? Is it Kind?

“The Three Gates” concept of “Right Speech” have to continuously prove themselves under pressure. I suspect our current National situation is a fine testing ground, so let’s take a look.

Yesterday I spoke online to a group of artists committed to healing our country, and spoke of the five step process I created for the group we called “Social Justice Writers”, writers who wish to express a philosophical view of equality and justice in society. ALL writing expresses a world view, about human nature and the structure of the universe. Don’t kid yourself: “Who am I?” and “What is True?” are the two most critical arenas of inquiry philosophically or artistically. These people are simply dealing with this consciously, and somewhat against established social patterns they believe are delusional and oppressive. And they took heat for taking their stand.

Wishing to help them, I created these steps, which I think are useful today.

  1. Love yourself. Abuse and pain can cripple our self-image and ability to enjoy life. HOW do we do it? “Heartbeat” meditation is great. Self-care is wonderful, and the Five Minute Miracle and Morning Ritual are fantastic beginnings. But after we do, you have to start taking action: fear is an action call. Take action and you are using that emotional fuel.
  2. Love one other person. Opening your heart to others begins the expansion of ego. Sex is a stupendous example of this…
