Process Is More Important Than Product
So last week, things went well. I’m assuming that the television folks on the project I call “Town” will be back to us before Christmas with final edits, but there is an excellent chance that everything simply moving forward, and we might even be able to announce by the end of the year.
But as said, before we could turn in the first draft, we got an offer of another project, a chance to pitch on a movie, based on the qualities of our horror script THE KEEPER. You know, the one that got rejected by the major studio, which threw us for a loop?
Well, yeah, it didn’t sell, and it hurt, but
- It was practice. You want to develop a clear sense of the PROCESS that creates your best work. Focus on this process, not the individual products. They are interesting, but not as important as your daily “chop wood, carry water.”
- It allowed me to refine my working relationship with T. Look. Collaboration is hard. Artists argue with THEMSELVES. We all do. Add another person to the mix, and there HAVE to be rough patches, unless you are perfectly enlightened psychic twins. That ain’t us. So our values, beliefs, goals, methods and interests (and so forth) overlap enough for us to be able to work, but vary enough to create conflict. So long as that conflict doesn’t overwhelm the work, it is spicy, not dangerous.
- We created another piece of property. Something that our agents can hopefully, eventually sell.
- “Keeper” is another calling card…
