Sales and Marketing and Sex and Grades
“Money is selling. All selling is convincing someone of the benefits of doing something you want them to do: buy something, hire you, go out with you, give you a privilege, whatever. Convince them they will get more pleasure than pain from giving you what you want…and you WIN!” — Brendon Burchard

Every morning I perform a Morning Ritual with Jason, adapted from the book. “How To Double Your Child’s Grades In School (in Five Minutes A Day)” by Eugene Schwartz.
Primarily known as a master, “magic”-level marketer, Schwartz wrote this book in the 50’s, I believe, and while out of print since the 60’s is pretty @#$$ amazing. Anyway it revolves around five minutes every school morning, where I feed Jason positive vibes while checking his work and helping him see it in context of the rest of his life. The M.A.G.I.C. formula. (Map, Action, Gratitude, Intention, Confidence) is foundational. But I also expose him to other principles I’ve observed, learned, created, or am in the process of learning.
This morning, I had the opportunity to teach him about selling and marketing. “Marketing” is raising the awareness of your product or service to an appropriate market. But “selling” is closing the deal, actually making the transfer of your energy and knowledge for theirs. Usually, this means trading your product or service for their money.
I’ve often told him his “job” is school, and that I’m teaching him what he will need to keep a “real” job once he is…
