Smart Father, Strong Son
Meditating this morning, as I do six days a week (I DELIBERATELY take one day a week off from yoga, working out, and formal meditation).
My son Jason came in the room. I felt his presence, and when I peeked out from below closed lids, I glimpsed his outline. I smiled, eyes closed, letting him know I felt and welcomed his presence, and then spread my arms for our morning hug. He hugged me warmly, my huge warrior/hunter son.
“I’m so lucky” I said.
He replied “we.”
I agreed. “WE are so lucky to have each other.”
He nodded. “Smart father, strong son,” he said.
We shared a smile. We share a love.
Smart father. Strong son.
I love that. I’ll take it.

Meditation gives me a chance to “peek” at the person I’m molding under the discipline. This is my PERSONAL “Morning Ritual”. There is also the ritual I do with Tananarive five days a week, the “Blessing Dance” for marriage. And the ritual I did with Jason as a child, which evolved into a version of the morning meeting discussed in “How to Double Your Child’s Grades” by Eugene Schwartz (dynamite book) and the family meetings we do for him as a student every school morning.
In about a month, when he graduates high school, this will morph to be about building a business rather than “getting grades” as we show him that the foundation of learning and discipline and focus…
