Sun Salutations: A Perfect Program?

Allow me to hypothesize a bit, and project what might be happening. Let’s say that the Sun Salutations are the smartest segment of the smartest body-mind discipline created by the smartest yogi who ever lived. Not literally true, perhaps, but bear with me: it is amazingly powerful, as well as scalable.

OK. Now say that the number 108 is special in some way. Maybe not with precision, but the notion of doing a solid 45–60 minutes of Sun Salutations has some tremendous power. Let’s say further that breaking them up into multiple sets doesn’t decrease the benefits, but shifts them a bit, in a positive way.

So that would be about 22 reps per set, five sets. So that you are tapping into the “Grease The Groove” thingie, as well as the “Pomodoro” notion of frequent breaks. Just a bit, anyway.

Now. Look at that number. I think you wouldn’t want to do 108 daily for very long. The risk of repetitive stress injuries…or boredom…is high. But what are the other thresholds?

WHAT IF…doing “your age” in Sun Salutations in a day is a powerful way to protect the body-mind connection? That is plausible. But I have to ask…would it be necessary to do this daily? The hypothesis: no, I don’t. So long as I connect ALL my exercise to my “be breathed” “perpetual exercise” practice.

O.K. We’re almost finished. IF this were true (that doing your age in Sun Salutations 2–6 times a week confers a serious, measurable health-extension benefit) then the “on-boarding” is very easy:
