Sun Salutations, Social Media, and refining instinct

I think I have a breakthrough in the Sun Salutation arena. If you “check in” with yourself before beginning, just stand there and scan your body, briefly. Can you feel the tension you will experience when you begin? If we called this tension “fear reactivity” would it tell a story?

Now. Remember the last time you got into an argument on FB that spiraled into sheer conflict and opprobrium. Did you get a FEELING at some point, perhaps in your gut or chest? Something heavy and sour perhaps? Check this feeling. Can you remember a similar feeling in other circumstances?

What if I suggested that this is part of your proprioceptive sense, the “sense” that warns you of danger? Would that make sense?

I’m going to guess that you were dealing with someone who was violating one of the Three Gates, or not taking responsibility for their Three Centers. Create a little checklist for yourself:

  1. Were they being honest? To themselves, and/or to you? Or were they manipulating facts and perspectives to try to get you to trust them, perhaps?
  2. Were they kind? Insults are not necessarily indicative of poor intent or character. IN some social circles they are signs of affection. But is that YOUR way? Do you want that in your life? And another possibility: they are insulting you in an attempt to break you down, to get you to react emotionally rather than intuitively or logically.
