The Art of Persuasion Part 1
BREATHE!
One of the most common complaints I see is some variation on “I can’t get those idiots to change their minds.”
The problem is that the speaker thinks the person they are talking to doesn’t know you think they’re an idiot. ASSUME THAT THE PERSON YOU ARE TALKING TO CAN READ YOUR MIND and you will usually understand why you can’t get anywhere with them.
The people who have helped change the world for the better came from a different place. They weren’t looking down at humanity from some peak, they built bridges of that special combination of love and strength, and sought to lift humanity up.
This is critical: STRENGTH AND LOVE. Start with your 100% certainty of your right to defend yourself. Focus on that until you have that connection, because if you don’t, you’ll be coming from fear and anger. Leave the communication to people who HAVE made that connection, because otherwise you are just going to be frustrated and lie to yourself: “Nothing works! I’ve tried everything, and nothing works!”
No, you haven’t. You may or may not have tried everything you can THINK of. Everything you think is reasonable. Everything you’ve seen work, or believe can work, or is comfortable to you from your current position. OR everything you are WILLING to do. But there is always more. And if you find yourself saying “Everything” it doesn’t pass even the First Gate.
