“20% of success is `how’. 80% of success is `why’.”

When people tell me they want more motivation to X (write, get fit, find a relationship) I know if I ask them why they want it, they will have a few small, weak answers. They DO focus on the “how”. The people who are BURNING with the fire of creation, who tie their goals into their childhood dreams and deathbed values, their survival drive itself and their sense of evolution as a human being…those people have no problem with ‘motivation.’

Personally, I don’t have “motivation” as much as hunger. The most important three outcome arenas of my life all tie into and reinforce each other. All relate to the same life path. There are only three things I really care about in life: writing, martial arts, and my family and friends. That’s it. Fortunately, just as some people say “everything is political” everything is also communication, survival, and love. Twine those three together, tie each of them to the “third rail” of survival, the power of the heart space, and a commitment to serve mankind to the limits of my capacity as long as I live.

WHY DO YOU WANT WHAT YOU WANT?

Ask yourself. Remember that there are two primary questions: “who Am I?” and “What is true?”

When your motivations for action are connected with your deepest sense of who you are, and your most honest sense of what is true…you will have all the motivation you seek.
