The Eleventh Step: The Subconscious Mind

I circle around and around, trying to determine what the most basic things I’d teach Jason if I knew I only had one hour to teach him everything I felt he needed. If I was going to die, and this was our last conversation. I come back to:

  1. The Three Gates. A standard which, so long as you have triggered your survival drive, is a fine path to an awake, aware, adult human being.
  2. The Three Centers. Here’s the survival drive (“warrior”), our emotional storehouse (“shadow”) and our higher functions and spiritual being (“magician”). Also a simple division of body, heart, and head. And a doorway to advanced martial aspects. This is the core software we all come in with: it only has to be activated.
  3. Lifewriting. The combination of the Hero’s Journey and the Chakras. Use the combination to envision a dynamic sphere of action. Look at the HJ as the path between the Chakras, and use Maslow or Erikson’s notions of universal human drives to understand your own needs and desires, even if they are hidden from you.
  4. The M.A.G.I.C. Ritual. The best daily practice I have to implant these principles deeply.

I think…THINK…that I could get it all in an hour of open-hearted conversation. And if he took it to heart, he’d be about a decade ahead of where I was at his age. And that’s not bad at all. I cannot think of any human need or drive that is not rooted in these notions. The M.A.G.I.C. formula will get you into the top 20% of your field, and if you want more…
