The Power of Now
I was speaking with someone, “George”, who had a chance to act opposite a major, beloved and accomplished actor. He were almost accidentally in the scene, standing in for another performer. In a major moment, they locked eyes, and my friend was blown away. The sheer POWER of that moment was life-changing.
After the scene, my friend went out in the hall and cried. There were other people in that room: the author whose book was being adapted, a lauded director, and of course the actor. And George asked himself: what was the difference between himself and those men? Why were they what THEY were, and he what HE was?
And he had a breakthrough. It is said that from time to time life gives you a quarter inch of opportunity, and in my opinion, this was George’s moment.
The difference was that the actor was totally, absolutely, IN THE MOMENT. Not angry, guilt-tripped or even happy about the past. Not fearful about the future. IN THE MOMENT.
And I choose to believe that that was a pivotal moment in George’s life. Armed with that realization, an artists, a warrior’s realization, he went out and changed his life MASSIVELY.
The artist seeks the moment of ego dissolution, where the emotional impulse and the intellectual craft meld together with physical discipline to create something special, something higher, a glimpse of what happens when human beings release their egos, release time and separation, and LIVE FULLY.
