The Scent of Mastery

BREATHE!

Listening to zen Master Yo Hoon this morning. It is fascinating absorbing the thoughts of people more evolved than yourself. I measure this in various ways, but there are some fairly consistent similarities:

  1. They are in a default state of happiness. Not that they don’t get frustrated or unhappy, but if you see their faces in repose, the smile lines are dominant. Frowning seems almost an effort.
  2. They have a deep sense of “presence.” They are, simply, HERE. Now. Nothing special about it. The amazing thing is how rarely most people are. Most seem attached to past wrongs or accomplishments, future fears or hopes. These masters just…are.
  3. And BTW…they often accomplish at staggering levels. They can, quite casually, trigger a sense of “shit! I’ve been wasting my life!”
  4. They often move with great symmetry. I’m not speaking of martial arts or yoga masters, although they are in this category. Bilateral symmetry, as if both hands or legs are connected to some internal source, and flowing out to the world from a balanced initial impulse.
  5. They laugh a lot.
  6. They simultaneously don’t seem to take life seriously, and hold it sacred. Difficult to explain.
  7. They give off a sense of being relaxed surfers on a massive tsunami of energy. You would NOT want to mess with them. It just wouldn’t be wise, for reasons, again, that are difficult to explain.
  8. They can seem somewhat asexual…
