“Whenever I wonder if my goals are too high, I ask myself one important question: “how long am I going to be dead?” Then, armed with the answer, I go out and give it a shot.” — Steven Barnes

So…I decided to up my goals this year, in all four major arenas (body, career, family, finances) and to do that I have to look at

  1. Who is the person who could achieve these goals?
  2. What are their behaviors, emotional sets, and strategies?
  3. What is the “gap” between theirs, and min?

Then I have to bridge that gap, and bingo, I’ve maximized my chances of accomplishing the goal. Let me drill down, and find the smallest change which, if I could really make it, would create the greatest amount of difference? 2020 will be an inquiry and testing ground for that.

  1. If I don’t believe in talent, what DO I believe in? Focused attention and modeling. Hmmm. So whatever this simple change would be, it would have to address this. I must close the “talent gap.”
  2. The “Five Minute Miracle” is maybe the best tiny piece of the puzzle. Totally life-changing if you can implement it (and it will be a challenge, unless you have internal permission to succeed, thrive, and be happy. Not everyone does.)
  3. Brendon Burchard, whose “High Performance” materials are a subject of focus this year, suggests that you take a five-minute break every hour if you want to maximize performance.
