BREATHE!!

Are you a victim or a warrior? A victim says things happen to them. A warrior stands in the center of their world and says: bring it on. They are going to either enjoy, or learn from, EVERYTHING that happens to them. They recognize patterns so that they can see what is coming BEFORE it happens. Wayne Gretzky was asked the secret of his superb hockey play. He said that the other players skated to where the puck is. He skated where the puck IS GOING.

Over the last few days I’ve been focusing on Jason’s patterns of letting fear turn into anger or paralysis. Since the @#$$ teachers at his elementary school wouldn’t notify us he had a learning issue (don’t ask me to speculate on why they did that. I can promise you there is potential ugliness down that road) he learned to associate MASSIVE PAIN to learning. And developed a coping mechanism: pretending not to care. Clowning.

Rage.

Remember that anger is fear? Try fear that he can’t do it, fear that if he cares, he’s just going to be disappointed. Fear of disappointing us and losing our love.

So he develops a self image to protect himself. And we will move heaven and Earth to preserve our self image…even if it is painful, because death, destruction of that image, is even more painful.

OUCH. So I have to recognize the way he organizes his physical, emotional, and mental resources to achieve the result called “rage or paralysis”, WHY he does it, interrupt his pattern and offer him a new and more…
