Where Did You Let Fear Stop You?

The “Chakras” are metaphors for human development, similar to Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, and need not be taken more literally than that to get the benefits. But one thing is really true: that with any esoteric teaching there is a real, serious difference between reading about it, and actually speaking to someone who has had a direct transmission from a teacher. It’s almost like fire passing from one torch to another, as opposed to looking at a picture of a fire.

Not quite, but close. One difference is that you can ask questions, and the live person can answer from their own experience. In my conversation with Master Dawn Callan, who has trained over seven thousand people in her intense workshops, we spoke of the fact that, in her path, you MUST do the work in order, working from the “bottom up.” This would be dealing with your survival needs, your passions and sexual hungers, and your sense of physical mastery and power in the world. These three, together, form the “Belly Brain”, and you CANNOT wiggle out of this. Some of the unhappiest people I’ve ever known were good people who tried to ignore these things, and their lives went sideways.

While the Martial Arts are a beautiful way to address this, ANY physical discipline, addressed seriously (including breathing) will anchor you into these basic levels and let you do the work. I chose martial arts, due to childhood bullying, but that bullying had damaged me to the point that just friendly sparring triggered massive fear, memories of helplessness or even fear of becoming…
