Why Do We Lie To Ourselves?
Recently, I had a FB conversation with a very Political Gentleman, on his page. He claimed that attitude X was anathema to him, and was more often found among Liberals, and I said that I had seen it more often among Conservatives. He insisted that if I had seen that, I must have a rather limited and dim group of Conservatives around me. His friends were different.
The fun thing is that right in the middle of our conversation (on his page), someone with attitude X chimed in, defending that attitude. I was seriously amused, wondering how PG would deal with this.
And…he ignored it.
I asked him repeatedly if he noticed, as the other guy doubled and tripled down, explaining why he had Attitude X, and claiming that I would have to be ignorant not to agree. I couldn’t have cared less what he thought, but was fascinated that PG couldn’t see this. Finally, the third time I asked him for comment, PG basically said “this guy isn’t my friend.”
You can’t make this stuff up.
