Why I’ll Probably Watch Just One Episode of House of the Dragon
I will probably watch HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. The things that disturbed me about GAME OF THRONES will probably be fixed. Namely, there wasn’t a single black character in 73 episodes and hundreds of speaking roles who was an admirable, intact male. While probably not conscious, it’s not accidental either. Note my comments about Marvel movies, please.
The same thing was true of the first years of WALKING DEAD, where poor T-Dawg was so clearly and obviously the result of white writers projecting their fantasies that by the time Tyrese was coached in courage by children, or died getting bit by a little girl zombie, I’d had enough. Compare this to what happens when they had a Korean husband-wife (I think) team writing for the show: Glen survived things he really shouldn’t have, and for obvious reasons.
By the time Glen got his brains bashed in, I frankly laughed. Yeah, I said it.
I hear that the show is now diverse, probably due to hearing complaints. Same with House of the Dragon, I’d bet. Marvel still has their issues (Falcon is a particularly egregious case, being LITERALLY the only star of the Disney+ Marvel shows with no love interest. Predictable and ugly in implications.)
Again, if someone brought this up to the creatives, their reaction would likely be like Elizabeth Kubler-Ross’ stages of grief.
