You Have All The Time You Need…But None To Waste

Here are two “filters” I use on my pages:

1. Racists don’t get to comment on race
2. People who cannot pass the Three Gates regarding “Birtherism” cannot engage with me personally on politics.

You do not have time and energy to engage with everyone or everything. In fact, all the Masters that I know (let alone Grandmasters!) focus tightly. They found something they love, found mentors, maintained a flexible attitude, put in their 10k hours, and found a way to improve by at least 1% a week. Really, that’ll do it.

But they don’t generalize, and they don’t step very far off their path. If they are balanced human beings, they have time for fun, friends, and family — those are all part of the human experience, and without them you are a machine. Frankly, I don’t do anything I can’t connect to my family, my writing, or the martial arts. But viewed properly, one can connect ANYTHING to one of those three arenas, so its not really much of a limitation.

But what I don’t have time for is exploring side territory when I’m moving forward. That will get you killed, like looking back over your shoulder while speeding on the freeway. And part of that “side territory” is defined as “people who shun the Three Gates.”

They do not care about dishonesty, cruelty, and/or usefulness. I know this if they excuse these things in other people, especially the first two. I simply don’t believe you can accept lies, or lie only in…
