“You Have To Care About Everything, or You Don’t Really Care About Anything”
One “snake” tactic I see (also used by the sleeping. Not every badness is deliberate) is actually the sort of gaslighting perfectionists do to themselves. It is a sophisticated tactic. It is to say that if you don’t care about everything, you don’t care about anything. If you don’t get everything right, nothing makes any difference.
With yourself, this creates paralysis: “there is so much to do! I can’t decide what to do first! Or at all!” Without priorities, you CANNOT move. Are frozen in place. Are afraid that anything you do will leave something else undone.
Get it?
Now, I’ve noticed the same tactic used politically, against those concerned with social justice. I’m quite sure it is used in other ways as well, but I first noticed it there, as this is an arena of MY interest. “If you don’t care about Y, you don’t care about ANY letters in the alphabet.” “If you don’t put the same focus into MY area of interest, you aren’t real.” Of course, for those who rail against “SJWs” the real intent might be reasonably suspected to be discrediting the entire notion of empathy, or creating paralysis by guilt-tripping the weak-minded into thinking they have to split their attention equally between every cause in the world.
Can’t be done. And if someone claims they do, simply look back over the last couple of months of their posts or conversations or actions. They will ALWAYS cluster around their interests…
