Your Next Two Steps
BREATHE!
Here’s something True, Useful, and Kind:
If you focus on the EXHALATION part of the breathing cycle, then relax, your body will automatically inhale in a “nature abhors a vacuum” manner. Similarly, if you ACT with power…and then relax… your body, mind, and spirit will refresh itself. Conversely, if you focus on the INHALATION you often hold your breath and forget to exhale!
If you EXHALE and then relax, your body’s SURVIVAL DRIVE will do the rest. Nature will do the rest. But focusing on the INHALE is like focusing on what you’re “getting” rather than what you’re GIVING. So…first connect to survival, then give your all to the world, and then relax, in cyclic pulses.
You can connect with your survival drive by slowing down your breathing until you ALMOST start to panic. Back off (speed up) until you are close enough to feel the heat, but are not “on fire” with the need to breathe. Observe. This frantic urge is your survival drive, like a subway’s third rail glowing in the darkness. You can connect with it at any time.
You could be depressed, distracted, tired, confuse and SUICIDAL, and if I grabbed your head and stuck it in a bucket of water, you would FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!!
ANY lack of motivation is a lack of connection to this “third rail.” Once you’ve found it physiologically, you can connect it to your psychology by clarifying your values. What would you die for? Who would you fight for?
